Our Coaching Institute Graduates
Name: LaTalya Palmer-Lewis
Your previous job:
I worked as an Empowerment Trainer for Human Service Workers for Community Colleges and not-for-profit agencies.
How long did you work there?
I was doing that for almost 10 years.
What was your position?
Instructor
When/why did you decide to learn coaching?
In 2000 I decided that I wanted to become a coach. Coaching allows and supports people in expressing their innate greatness. Being a coach allows me the opportunity to support them in others in their growth and potential and realize their greatest dreams. That’s a wonderful experience to witness.
What symptoms did you have that prompted this career change decision?
I began to feel limited in what I tools and the support I could offer within the realm of Human Services. It is great work but there are also rules and limits, laws and guidelines that prevent people from being truly free.
What skills now benefit you and/or your company?
My ability to communicate (listen and speak) in a clear, non-judgmental/threatening way, the ability to provide non-attached support, I look for the strengths in others and help others to build on them. I can help re-frame negative perceived situations to form a more healthy perspective. I can assist others in building confidence and self-esteem that one needs to step out on their journey.
What do I do as a coach?
I provide comprehensive life coaching for mothers who want to get their life back on track to experience fulfilling lives while raising their children. We do this through a program called “The Art of Being A Diva Mom”. In this program we work through internal and external obstacles and everyday challenges that prevent moms from achieving their goals and dreams.
A Diva Mom is one who is dedicated to practicing self-care; is committed to prioritizing her needs, wants and desires; follows her dreams; determined to fulfill her purpose in life-ALL WHILE CARING FOR HER FAMILY!
Any other comments or examples you want to mention regarding how your training at The Coaching Institute has changed/benefited your life and/or career and those around you?
Yes. The Coaching Institute served as a true model of what coaching is. The Institute provided the foundation of support that I needed to achieve my goal of becoming a certified coach. The support of the forum, my mentor, the coaching kit, Rachel, Karen and Pat’s administrative support and Terri’s free bonus calls all provided the skill, support, mentoring and coaching I needed to raise my vibration and make powerful changes in my own life – so that I can then be a light for others. It was a total experience.
If somebody has a question and wants to email you to ask personally – can they?
Absolutely! safespacecoaching@yahoo.ca.
