Our Coaching Institute Graduates
Name: Ronald M. Shepard
Your previous job:
Social Work
How long did you work there?
5 years
What was/is your position?
Director of Program for At-Risk Teens and Families
When/why did you decide to learn coaching?
I entered college at 47 to begin a career in the Social Work field after 30 years working in the Business Sector as Business Manager/Comptroller. After 5 years working with at-risk youth and their families, I decided to get my Masters degree which eventually led me to Coaching (rather than to mental health counseling). I was attracted to Coaching because of its context: Well-being.
What symptoms did you have that prompted this career change decision?
At age 47, I had the desire to change careers as I entered the next phase of my life. I entered college and received my Bachelor’s degree at 50; at 55, I received my Master’s degree in psychology/sociology. I had a strong desire to change careers due to my long-held desire to work with people. While I did very well in the business sector, I was constantly pulled to work more closely with people in a different and more profound way.
What skills now benefit you and/or your company?
Besides my Master’s degree, I hold two coaching certifications; a certification in hypnosis, and tested competency as an EFT-Advance Practitioner, as well as a host of business trainings (i.e., management skills, computer programmer, etc.) throughout the 30+ years while in the business sector.
What do I do as a coach?
I offer coaching to small business owners and entrepreneurs. I also coach executives who find their lives out of balance and on the brink of disaster. By combining my psychology background with my years of experience in the business sector, while utilizing my various coaching modalities has created some excellent successes among my clients. I also offer coaching groups around living a balanced life, as well as living through the power of intention.
Any other comments or examples you want to mention regarding how your training at The Coaching Institute has changed/benefited your life and/or career and those around you?
